2026 New Trends in the Bathroom Industry and Consumer Pain Points in Purchasing
Release time:
May 19,2026
In 2026, guided by national policies, China's domestic bathroom industry continued to advance its transition toward green and intelligent manufacturing. Water conservation and emission reduction, smart health solutions, elderly-friendly amenities, and whole-house renovation packages emerged as the industry's four major mainstream trends. In accordance with documents such as the *Work Plan for Stabilizing Growth in the Building Materials Industry (2025–2026)*—jointly issued by six ministries including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology—and the *Implementation Rules for Water Efficiency Labeling of Faucets* and *Catalog of Products Subject to Water Efficiency Labeling (2025 Edition)*—released by the National Development and Reform Commission and other agencies—home renovation and kitchen-and-bath upgrades proceeded in an orderly fashion across the country, with green and smart bathroom products becoming a key focus of consumer spending upgrades. Concurrently, water efficiency standards and safety certification requirements for smart products continued to tighten, driving a process of natural selection within the industry that favors the superior and eliminates the inferior, thereby fostering overall quality improvement and upgrading.
For the average consumer, selecting bathroom products in 2026 became significantly more challenging, as the industry presented numerous pain points regarding the purchasing process. First, certain high-end and imported bathroom products suffered from excessive brand premiums; while the basic functionality of many such products differed little from their counterparts, their retail prices varied drastically, making it difficult for the general public to accurately assess value for money. Second, smart bathroom products suffered from a pronounced issue of homogenization; a multitude of small and medium-sized brands merely followed trends by superficially stacking standard features—such as heating, washing, and antibacterial functions—without investing in core technological R&D or establishing robust quality control systems. Consequently, these products frequently exhibited issues such as high energy consumption, insufficient operational stability, and a poor user experience.
Furthermore, the market was plagued by issues such as product category confusion and a lack of information transparency. Some products currently on the market displayed non-compliant water efficiency labels or featured exaggerated claims regarding performance parameters; additionally, certain older product models failed to clearly indicate their version information, making it easy for consumers to be misled during the purchasing process. Beyond this, the industry faced issues such as incomplete after-sales service networks among certain brands and delayed responses to maintenance and repair requests. As a result, many consumers fell into "traps" when selecting bathroom fixtures for their home renovations—spending substantial budgets yet struggling to find products that truly met their household needs, offered stable quality, and complied with regulatory standards. There is an urgent need for consumers to exercise rational judgment in their purchasing decisions, using reputable, mainstream brands as reliable benchmarks.
